Why are we fundraising?

A Kurdish friend living in Ireland organised this direct aid fundraiser after a discussion we had about the situation faced by her family and friends still living in Rojava. Her family are from Tel Halef, a town right on the border with Turkey, which was invaded by Turkish proxy forces- made up of mercenaries and ISIS/Al Nusra members- earlier this month. The family have been forced to flee and are sheltering from airstrikes and mercenary attacks with many other refugees in Girkê Legê (Al Muabbada). People are living in very poor conditions with limited access to food, drinking water and shelter. As winter approaches these conditions will only worsen.

The invasion of Tel Halef was part of the Turkish backed occupation of Rojava which has involved ethnic cleansing, the displacement of 400,000 people, and mass killing of Kurdish, Syriac, Assyrian and Armenian people who call Rojava home. The occupation also threatens the very existence of the feminist, ecological, libertarian socialist project that is Rojava.

How we can help

Through connections with family and friends, the organiser living here in Ireland will be able to ensure that the money raised gets into people in the region who need it most, in the form of basic necessities to help displaced people- things like blankets, drinking water, food, torches etc.

Why Donate? Since the Turkish occupation, all international NGOs and aid workers have left the region. The only groups operating there now are the Kurdish Red Crescent (Heyva Sor) and small number of local medical workers and international volunteers. Now, even these groups are being targeted by occupying forces. Direct aid is the only way that it is possible to support those affected by the conflict. All aid will go directly to those affected, distributed by self organised networks in local communities.

PLEASE DONATE GENEROUSLY!

I can’t donate, what else can I do? If you can’t afford to support us financially, that’s ok. Please share this with your friends who might be able to donate, attend protests and talk to people about what is going on Rojava.

Biji Rojava!
